THEN AND NOW

change a few name s and this fits nicely in today's world. People that want something for nothing.

A Moral Tale

Classic Version:

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he's a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or shelter so he dies out in the cold.

Modern Version:

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he's a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving. CBS, NBC and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. America is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can it be that, in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so? Then a representative of the NAAGB (National > Association of Green Bugs) shows up on Nightline and charges the ant with "green bias", and makes the case that the grasshopper is the victim of 30 million years of greenism. Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper, and everybody cries when he sings "It's Not Easy Being Green."

Bill and Hillary Clinton make a special guest appearance on the CBS Evening News to tell a concerned Dan Rather that they will do everything they can for the grasshopper who has been denied the prosperity he deserves by those who benefited unfairly during the Reagan summers, or as Bill refers to it, the "Temperatures of the 80's." Richard Gephardt exclaims in an interview with Peter Jennings that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and calls for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his "fair share."

Finally, the EEOC drafts the "Economic Equity and Anti-Greenism Act" retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government. Hillary gets her old law firm to represent the grasshopper in a defamation suit against the ant, and the case is tried before a panel of federal judges that Bill appointed from a list of single-parent welfare moms who can only hear cases on Thursday's between 1:30 and 3pm when there are no talk shows scheduled.

The ant loses the case.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he's in, which just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around him since he doesn't know how to maintain it. The ant has disappeared in the snow. And on the TV, which the grasshopper bought by selling most of the ant's food, they are showing Bill Clinton standing before a wildly applauding group of Democrats announcing that a new era of "fairness" has dawned in America.

I WISH

I wish everyone was healthy. I wish that if they were ill they could go get medical help.
I wish there were no starving people in the world. Too bad we have so many right here in our country that are starving. I wish everyone in the world had home to go to. Too bad there are millions of homeless people right here in America.I wish everyone had a job, too bad our government allows so many jobs to go to China so their people have a job.
I wish children were given a good education right here in the USA, Where are we in the world standing on education?
I wish we could do this without robbing Peter to pay Paul.
Where is the money suppose to come from? I posted a list of mostly wasted grant money on Multiply last week, I did not hear one person say "Maybe we could use this money to pay for the unemployed, for health care. For the starving, for the homeless". I get a list of grant proposals every day. Anywhere from finding a cure for some disease to watching how high a frog leaps on an island somewhere we have never heard of.
It is a good thing to be interested in what is happening in Washington DC .The problem is there are so many things wrong in Washington. First of all all of the elected people are over paid,( except the President). They have over the top insurance, over the top retirement. And who votes this stuff in? They are allowed to give raises, benefits fit for a king without asking their boss's permission, the American public. And now they are saying a three day week. What heck most of them are not there three days a week!
House and Senate say teachers should get paid for performance. Why not Representatives and Senators also get paid for performance? Each one of these people have how many others getting paid to do their work for them? What is the budget for aides for congress? How much waste is going on every second of every day by these same people telling us to tighten our belts? I do not know about the rest of you but I smell a rat, actually a lot of rats.
Instead of dwelling on one or two things maybe its time to take a look at the whole picture. And come election time skip party registration and actually vote for the most common sense instead of hollow promises.

WHO READS THIS STUFF

I write my feeling, ideas and complaints. Who reads them? Is it important for anyone to read them? After all it makes me feel better to get this stuff off my chest. Some days I whine , just like the rest of the world. Sometimes I think I am brilliant. I guess brilliance is in the eye of the reader or the writer.
I find that being home bound most of the time can be pretty darn boring. So I get involved in what is happening all around me, well at least in the out side world, not so much my immediate neighborhood.
I doubt anyone will read this but I feel better for writing it.

NOBEL PEACE PRIZE

I do not care one way or the other whether President Obama deserved the Nobel Peace Prize. I hope the charity he picks is the food shelves of America and not ACORN.
I do not care that the French first lady and our first lady is having a fashion war. Personally I think all first ladies need a midwest housewife to help choose their clothes. As my wise old mom said "pretty is as pretty does". Nothing wrong with a good pair of levis.
What I do care about is that the Minnesota Twins lost in an over time game to the Yankees. That makes two down but they will win at the "dome". This season is the last hurrah for the Twins in the"dome" Next year outdoor stadium. Well the Vikes will still play there.
It snowed last night, way too early. I am pretty sure my rosemary plant is a gonner. Now that is important.
If anyone wants to help me cut a kazillion little cuts in fleece so I can get the baby blankets done, please let me know. Talk about boring!!!!

ONCE UPON A TIME

Media overload is very wearing. I remember when news was news. Not the newscasters opinion. 0r their politicial agenda. Nor some CEO's view of the world should be run.
We definitely do not need to know what actors, singers, fooball players are doing minute by minute. Who really cares and if you do, get a life. I do miss when the news was reported and not repeated every 5 minutes.
Why aren't these people questioning what the legislature in both the house and senate are planning to do instead of what the people that voted for them really want.
69% of Americans are prolife, Including Democrats. So why are the less than one third pro abortion people having a say in the health care plan that is being proposed?

Isn't it time for people to stand up and be counted? Just think the supreme court decided when life begins. How can that be? A baby is a baby at least as soon as its heart beats, because that means its brain stem is developed enough to tell it to beat. This is not magic folks, its a fact. Now experts have proved that they have memories. What if their last memory is being killed. Shame on us for allowing murder. Call it what you will is there a difference between this and hitler's mad schemes?
If abortion IS made mandatory in the new health plan and no one stops this. It will mean we are monsters.
I wonder what would happen if the health care plan is available for the reporters to read. Would they bother to read it and report it honestly? When I heard President Obama say they would pay for universal health care with medicare money, I was shocked. I knew he was a strange dude, but steal from old people? that is beyond underhanded. Why does the media not put these facts n the nightly news?
